Manual Handling TrainingA manual handling operation may be defined as "any transporting or supporting of a load (including lifting, putting down, pushing and pulling, carrying or moving thereof) by hand or bodily force."
The Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (MHO) came into force on 1 January 1993.These regulations seek to reduce the very large incidence of injury and ill-health arising from the manual handling of loads at work. More than 1 in 4 of all reportable injuries is caused by manual handling. These accidents do not include cumulative injuries, particularly to the back which can lead to physical implement or even permanent disablement. For a full overview visit www.hse.gov.uk Approximately one third of all injuries reported to the enforcing authorities are due to incorrect manual handling. Over £100million a year is lost due to injuries at work associated with incorrect manual handling.
