The legal obligation
Employers have an obligation under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981 and Approved Code of Practice (ACOP L74) to make adequate and appropriate First Aid Provision for their workforce.
It is recommended that someone is able to undertake First Aid duties at all times whilst people are at work.

Course Description:
A comprehensive three day course covering a wide range of First Aid emergencies and how to deal with them, enabling participants to qualify to the level of First Aider for the workplace meeting the statutory requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.
This course can be tailored to the requirements of specific work environments.
Aims of the Course:
At the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Assess and prioritise a First Aid incident.
- Deal with an unconscious casualty.
- Carry out resuscitation (CPR).
- Control bleeding and manage shock.
- Deal with injuries to bones, muscles and joints.
- Deal with a casualty suffering burns and scalds.
- Manage eye injuries.
- Deal with casualties overcome by fumes or suffering from poisoning.
- Deal with a broad range of common injuries and illnesses until the arrival of medical care.
- Maintain records.
- Use and maintain First Aid kits.
Course duration: 3 days
Course certification:
On successful completion of the course and final assessment participants will be awarded a First Aid At Work certificate approved for the purpose of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981, which is valid for three years.

First Aid at Work Refresher:
Course Description:
This course is to include a revision of topics covered in the four-day programme, together with any updates that have been incorporated into the programme since the candidate completed their original course.
Candidates wishing to undertake this training must provide evidence that they hold a current, in date, HSE First Aid at Work certificate.
Course duration: 2 days
Course certification:
On successful completion of the course and final assessment participants will be awarded a First Aid At Work certificate approved for the purpose of the Health and Safety (first aid) regulations 1981, which is valid for three years.

This course can be delivered in your workplace nationwide, or check our regional training venues (ideal for businesses who want the minimal employees trained).

Appointed Persons (Emergency First Aid)
Course Description:
A one day course, which can be tailored to meet the needs of the work environment. This course is ideal for businesses needing to qualify staff to the level of Appointed Persons to take responsibility for a first aid emergency and the first aid box in accordance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations.
This course is also recommended for those staff giving support to First Aiders in larger organisations. Continuous assessment of participant's practical skills takes place throughout this course.
Aims of the Course:
At the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Assess and prioritise a first aid incident
- Deal with an unconscious casualty
- Carry out resuscitation on an unconscious casualty
- Control bleeding and manage shock
- Be able to recognise and deal with a wide range of common injuries until the arrival of medical care
- Maintain records
- Use and maintain first aid kits
Course duration:
A one day course, consisting of both theory and practical work.
Course certification:
On successful completion of the course participants will be awarded an Emergency First Aid certificate valid for 3 years.
