Advanced Training Solutions are proud to announce that Company Director, Charlie Boyes has been awarded Graduate status of the Institution of Fire Engineers, the main awarding body when it comes to all things fire related. As a Company we are already able to offer our Fire Warden Training courses with approval from the IFE, this award just dots the i’s and crosses the t’s to many years of hard work and determination! Not one to rest on his laurels, he is now embarking on a Level 5 award in Health and Safety to add to his porfolio. Well done..

The first quarter of the year is always a busy period for us as many companies approach the end of the financial year and have money available for either training or if their annual refreshers are due to be trained. Either way, it is a good time for us albeit extremely busy. Now, the vast majority of our Fire Warden Training is delivered in-house, where we come to you and deliver this training. You benefit in a couple of ways, namely, your staff generally prefer to be trained in the comfort of their own workplaces, where they feel comfortable and are familiar with those around them. Secondly, your staff return to work immeadiatly following the training ensuring productivity is resumed and finally you don’t have the additional travel costs associated with open courses. However, you, like other smaller organisations, may not have the amount of staff to warrant an in-house course to be run at your location and have no alternative but to send staff on to an open training course and we find that this is normally courses such as our HSE First Aid at Work Courses that we run or the HSE Emergency First Aid at Work Training Courses. Recently, we have run these courses in South East London and Central London very successfully and furthermore a Paediatric First Aid course in Sussex. So, if you need to book an in-house Fire or First Aid Training Course, please get in touch..

Here at Advanced Training Solutions we do our very utmost to ensure that the equipment we use for both our Fire Training and First Aid Training is the very latest and up to date. 2012 is no different and we are pleased to announce that we have just taken delivery of a stock of brand new First Aid Training Manikins and the very latest Laerdal AED 3 Defib trainers. The manikins are revolutionary in that they assist the student in ensuring the correct compression depth during CPR; this is done by utilising the manikins unique led lighting system and ensures that the students create a compression depth of 5-6 cm in line with resus council guidelines. Combined with these, we have also recently upgraded our AED trainers and we are now able to offer training using the very latest in training equipment on all of our First Aid Training Courses and both of these products will be used on many upcoming Emergency Life Support Training days.

Company director Charlie Boyes has, once again agreed to run in next years Brighton Marathon for his sins, and in doing so he hopes to raise as much cash for his chosen charity, The Stroke Association.

The Fire Warden and First Aid trainer has run in the last two Brighton Marathons and has racked up times of 4hrs 13 mins and 4hrs 20 secs respectively so far and is desperate to break the 4hr barrier the next time out! Whilst not getting any younger he has made the bold statement that he feels that he has the ability to complete the run in less than 4hrs and is hopeful to get near to his 3hrs 45min goal! A brave statement many would say but he has started his training regime earlier this year and is extremely committed to the task! His chosen charity, The Stroke Association has provided him with his place and he is keen to raise much needed funds for this worthy cause. Charlie’s Mother in law was hit down by a stroke almost a year ago so he is keen to try and do his bit and raise awareness as best he can. There will soon be a link added here if you wish to donate and help Charlie meet his target. In the meantime, if you see Charlie during his training stage, give him a shout as he will more than likely need a much need push along!!

On the 01st November Advanced Training Solutions took on the charitable task of teaching 140 staff and pupils of Tideway School, East Sussex in Emergency Life Support. To enable us to do this we had to pull in the support of many friends and collegues to ensure that we had the right instructors for this task and as importantly enough instructors for the training to run smoothly. The 8 instructors we managed to intice to help us were all past or present serving Royal Air Force fire fighters, who gave up their time to help us and in return the school generously donated a sum of money to a charity of the instructors choice.

The students were taught how to perform a number of first aid tasks which included, how to perform Primary and Secondary surveys, how to place someone in to the Recovery Position, how to perform CPR, deal with a casualty who is choking and how to deal with a bleeding wound. After the initial introductions the sessions kicked in to life and the training focused on being as ‘hands on’ as possible to ensure as much interaction and engagement as was possible. As is always the way with First Aid training, some people find the thought of having to demonstrate a skill in front of a class quite daunting but in 99% of cases during this training, this was not the case and both staff and students remained fully engaged throughout the session and it was a credit to the school just how the students interacted with the instructors.

All in all a great day was had by students and instructors alike and a big thanks goes out to Ross, Jim, Jimmy, Dave, Phil, Steve, Nige, Charlie and the staff of Tideway School without whom this training could not have taken place.

Here at Advanced Training Solutions we always like a challenge! So when we were approached by Tideway School in Newhaven, East Sussex to help them train some year 10 pupils in First Aid a challenge was born! What they need is not just a handful of pupils trained but a whole year; some 133 pupils in one day! The other slight issue is that there is no funding to pay for this training but they are able to make a donation to our choesen charity, should we be able to help out.

The logistical problems associated with this training will be instructors! We would need a minimum of 8 instructors to complete this training professionally and in the alloted timescale, so the next challenge would be to get the instructors to donate their free time to assist us with this challenge! No mean feat given the current climate but as all of our instructors are either current serving or ex serviceman from the RAF, we were confident that in aid of Help 4 Heroes they would gladly donate their time and go the extra mile. Sure enough, currently we have no less than 10 trainers prepared to help out on this challenge that takes place on the 01st November 2011 and a huge thanks goes out, in advance, to each and every one of them.

If you would like us to help out with your First Aid requirements please take a look here http://www.firesafety.org.uk/first-aid-training.php

We were recently approached by the RFU Health & Safety Manager at Twickenham to run some First Aid Training courses for their organisation, for both their permanent and casual staff and also for the Womens RFU. The courses started with Emergency Life Support Training with AED and Oxygen updates included in this, followed by two, 1 day Emergency First Aid at Work courses, culminating in a 3 day First Aid at Work training course.

All in all, over 50 staff members were trained in one form of First Aid or another and the feedback we have since received has been nothing short of fantastic, with many stating that the training was so much better than training they had previously received from one of the larger well known training organisations! Such was the quality of our training, we have been booked to carryout Fire Warden training and Fire Extinguisher training as well! Well done guys..
